This is a qualification for those engaged in driving operation job roles within the transport and logistics industry.

It involves a defined range of skilled operations, usually within a range of broader related activities involving known routines, methods and procedures, with some discretion and judgement in selecting equipment, services or contingency measures and within known time constraints.

Job roles

Job roles and titles vary across different sectors. Possible job titles relevant to this qualification include:

  • bus driver
  • coach driver
  • concrete agitator driver
  • line haul driver
  • pickup and delivery driver
  • pilot vehicle driver
  • tip truck driver
  • waste vehicle driver.

Successful achievement of the licensing units within the qualification must align with licensing and regulatory requirements applicable to driving and state or territory regulatory requirements.

A total of 15 units of competency comprising:

  • 5 core units listed below, plus
  • 1 driver awareness elective unit from the driver awareness elective units listed below, plus
  • 9 general elective units.

Up to 3 of the elective units may be selected from any relevant nationally endorsed Training Package or accredited course. The elective units must contribute to the vocational outcomes of the qualification.

Where imported units are selected, care must be taken to ensure that all prerequisite units specified are complied with.

      MR vehicles include:

      • trucks and buses with a GVM more than 8 tonnes and 2 axles
      • any towed trailer must not weigh more than 9 tonnes GVM.

      To apply for an MR licence, you must have:

      • Auto/Synchromesh – $950
      • Available Mon-Fri (1 day – 7.00am to 3.00pm)

      Minimum requirements:

      • Applicants must be at least 19 years of age.
      • Applicants must have held an Australian car licence for at least 12 months. This does not include a learner driver licence.
      • To apply you need: a learner logbook from Service NSW after the successful completion of the Driver Knowledge Test

      For all classes of licence training undertaken with All Onsite Training & Assessment, you will be required to follow the steps, outlined below, to obtain your heavy vehicle licences:

      • Study for the class of licence you wish to obtain.
      • Pass the knowledge test at Transport NSW.
      • For your LR, MR, HR and HC licence you should obtain the competency based assessment books from Transport NSW.
      • Contact us here at All Onsite Training and Assessment to make a booking.
      • Once you have been deemed competent, return to Transport NSW to have your photo licence processed.

          LR vehicles include:

          • small trucks with a gross vehicle mass (GVM) up to 8 tonnes. Any towed trailer must not weigh more than 9 tonnes GVM
          • buses that seat more than 12 adults, including the driver, and a GVM up to 8 tonnes.

          To apply for an LR licence, you must:

          • Minimum requirements:

            • Applicants must be at least 19 years old
            • Applicants must have held an Australian car licence for at least 12 months. This does not include a learner driver licence.

            • All students must pass a language, literacy & numeracy assessment (LLN)

            N.B. We do not have a LR truck and you will be required to provide one or we can hire one at an additional cost.

            HR vehicles include:

            • trucks and buses with a GVM more than 8 tonnes, and 3 or more axles
            • any towed trailer must not weigh more than 9 tonnes GVM
            • bendy buses. Even though these vehicles are articulated, they’re treated as rigid vehicles.

            To apply for an HR licence, you must:

            • Auto – $1500 – Available Mon-Sun (1 day – 7.00am to 4.00pm)
            • Road Ranger Constant Mesh – $2000 – Available Mon-Fri (2 days – 7.00am to 3.00pm)

            Minimum requirements:

            • Applicants must hold a green provisional licence.
            • Applicants must have held an Australian car licence for at least 2 years.
            • This does not include a learner driver licence.
            • All students must pass a language, literacy & numeracy assessment (LLN)

            For all classes of licence training undertaken with All Onsite Training & Assessment, you will be required to follow the steps, outlined below, to obtain your heavy vehicle licences:

            • Study for the class of licence you wish to obtain.

                If your heavy vehicle licence has a condition “B” restriction, you’re limited to driving vehicles with automatic or synchromesh gearboxes. This means you can’t drive vehicles equipped with a non-synchromesh gearbox (often called a crash box). To remove this condition, you’ll need training to learn how to operate a non-synchromesh gearbox.                 • articulated vehicles with 3 or more axles
                • heavy rigid vehicle trailer combinations including unladen dolly, with 3 or more axles
                • any towed trailer with a GVM more than 9 tonnes.

                Minimum requirements:

                • Applicants must be the holder of a current NSW MR or HR truck licence and have held that licence for a minimum of one year.
                • Applicants must complete the Roads and Maritime Services HC Knowledge Test and obtain a Competency Based Assessment Learners Logbook and Guidebook from the Transport NSW.
                • Study the CBA guidebook before starting the course.
                • All students must pass a language, literacy & numeracy assessment (LLN)
