Heavy Combination (HC) Truck Licence Training Wollongong

Step up from a Medium Rigid (MR) or Heavy Rigid (HR) qualification to an HC semi-trailer licence. Complete your practical HVCBA course in just 1 Day at our Unanderra depot. Choose between our modern Automatic/Synchromesh training fleet or an Unrestricted Road Ranger Constant-Mesh setup.

Fast-Track Your Semi-Trailer Earning Potential: 1-Day HC Upgrades

  • Automatic / Synchromesh Transmission Pathway ($2,275.00): Master the logistics of driving modern, high-efficiency semi-trailers, single-axle prime movers, and heavy rigid-trailer combinations.

  • Unrestricted Road Ranger Constant-Mesh Pathway ($2,375.00): Learn expert double-clutching techniques on a non-synchromesh crash box. Leaving your license completely unrestricted maximizes your value to civil construction, heavy haulage, and quarry operations.

  • On-Site HVCBA Assessment: Complete your training hours and secure your practical assessment directly with our accredited assessors on the Unanderra training pad before tackling Wollongong routes.

If your heavy vehicle licence has a condition “B” restriction, you’re limited to driving vehicles with automatic or synchromesh gearboxes. This means you can’t drive vehicles equipped with a non-synchromesh gearbox (often called a crash box). To remove this condition, you’ll need training to learn how to operate a non-synchromesh gearbox. Q: What am I legally allowed to drive with an NSW Heavy Combination (HC) licence?

A: An HC licence qualifies you to legally operate heavy articulated combination vehicles. This includes a prime mover towing a semi-trailer or a heavy rigid truck configuration towing a trailer with a Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) greater than 9 tonnes.

Q: What are the eligibility prerequisites to upgrade from an HR to an HC licence?

A: To qualify for an HC upgrade course, you must have held a valid Australian Medium Rigid (MR) or Heavy Rigid (HR) truck licence for a minimum of 12 months. You must also successfully pass the Heavy Vehicle Knowledge Test at a Service NSW centre to obtain your official HVCBA learner logbook before your training day.

Q: Will training in an automatic semi-trailer restrict my licence?

A: If you currently hold an unrestricted manual HR licence and choose to take the HC course in an automatic or synchromesh truck, you will retain your manual privileges on rigid vehicles, but you will receive a ‘B Condition’ restriction for articulated configurations. Testing in our Road Ranger HC truck ensures your semi-trailer classification remains fully unrestricted.
