Q: Is an excavator ticket the same as a SafeWork NSW High Risk Work Licence?
A: No. Excavators fall under the national Resources and Infrastructure Industry (RII) training package (RIIMPO320F) rather than a traditional SafeWork NSW High Risk Work Licence (like a forklift or scaffolding ticket). Upon successful completion at AOTA, you receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment and a photo competency card, allowing you to operate excavators on civil sites Australia-wide.
Q: Can I get my excavator ticket with zero prior experience?
A: Absolutely. AOTA accommodates all skill levels. Our standard course pathway combines flexible theory with extensive practical operating time at our facility. Our certified trainers will guide you through pre-start checks, levelling, trenching, and attachment changes until you are fully competent.
Q: Do you offer excavator VOCs (Verification of Competency) for commercial sites?
A: Yes. We provide streamlined Excavator VOC assessments for construction, mining, and civil companies. We can send an accredited assessor directly to your job site anywhere in NSW to verify your operators’ current competencies, minimising company liability and project downtime.
Q: How does the administrative and assessment process work on the training day?
A: On the morning of your practical block, you must present standard proof of identity and a verified Unique Student Identifier profile. Because training involves operating real, live heavy machinery on a functioning dirt training pad, you are strictly required to wear worksite Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)—specifically steel-capped safety boots, durable work clothing, and a high-visibility shirt or vest.
