Please refer to the AOTA Student Handbook through the Student Info Menu , as well as:

Q: Is a skid steer ticket the same as a standard car licence requirement?

A: No. Operating a skid steer (Bobcat) on a commercial or civil construction site requires a specialised national RII unit of competency (RIIMPO318F). While you no longer need an old “LB” regulatory ticket from a government department, principal contractors and employers mandate this modern accredited qualification to fulfill workplace health and safety compliance.

Q: Can I complete my skid steer training if I have never operated heavy machinery before?

A: Absolutely. AOTA completely accommodates operators of all skill levels. Our flexible blended delivery combines independent online theory preparations with comprehensive, face-to-face practical controls training. Local, certified assessors guide you through every step of machine handling until you are entirely competent.

Q: What equipment and administrative details do I need to prepare for training day?

A: On the morning of your practical block, you must present standard proof of identity and have a verified Unique Student Identifier (USI) profile configured. Because you will be operating active heavy earthmoving machinery on a live dirt pad, you are strictly required to wear worksite Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)—specifically steel-capped safety boots, durable work clothing, and a high-visibility shirt or vest.
