Q: How long are Australian First Aid and CPR certificates legally valid before expiring?
A: In accordance with the SafeWork Australia model Code of Practice and Australian Resuscitation Council standards, a Provide First Aid (HLTAID011) certificate is legally valid for 3 years from the date of completion. However, because cardiopulmonary resuscitation requires highly reactive precision skills, the Provide CPR (HLTAID009) component must be formally refreshed every 12 months to maintain regulatory site compliance.
Q: What is the specific first aid qualification mandated for early childhood education and care settings?
A: Anyone employed within the childcare, preschool, family daycare, or school-age education sectors must complete HLTAID012 (Provide First Aid in an education and care setting). This specialised qualification has been formally endorsed by the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) as it satisfies all mandatory framework criteria for first aid, emergency asthma management, and anaphylaxis autoinjector training.
Q: Are there any demanding physical requirements to successfully pass the practical assessment?
A: Yes. To pass a nationally accredited first aid or CPR competency profile, the national training package strictly mandates that all candidates must demonstrate unassisted, continuous cardiopulmonary resuscitation on an adult manikin placed flat on the floor for a minimum of 2 minutes. If you possess temporary mobility constraints, contact our Unanderra administrative team ahead of time to evaluate optimal support options.
